Social History

Social History covers all aspects of domestic and social life from 1600 to the present day. Our Social History collections include a wide range of items from art, costume, community history, world cultures and oral history.

The social history team displays and cares for the collection. We create exhibitions, give talks, work with community groups to record their history and experiences and provide an enquiry service.

The community history, art, costume and oral history collections in Colchester are housed in Hollytrees Museum and the Museum Resource Centre.

The community history, art, costume and world culture collections in Ipswich are housed at Ipswich Museum and Gallery and Christchurch Mansion.

If you’d like to get in touch with us about these collections, please contact us.
