Stone Age

Colchester and the area surrounding it has a wealth of objects dating from all three periods of the Stone Age.

The Stone Age had three distinct periods: the Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age), the Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age) and the Neolithic (New Stone Age).

The collection includes objects such as handaxes, arrow points and spear points and pottery. Each of the objects in the collection shows the different tools used during the Stone Age and how humans adapted to survive in changing environments.
