The Big LEGO Build

In this fun and interactive Key Stage 2 full-day session your pupils will work with our very own Brickologist to help recreate Ipswich town centre from LEGO™ bricks and learn about local history.

Your pupils will be introduced to our exhibition You are here! The Making of Ipswich before being split into groups to take part in the LEGO™ workshop and learning about Ipswich’s past as they work through a series gallery-based activities including object handling.

The Big LEGO™ Build takes place in the Learning Studio, Gallery 1, Gallery 2 and Atrium at Ipswich Art Gallery.

 

Full Day Session

£4.50 per child

Ipswich Art Gallery

Pupils will investigate the development of Ipswich over time by focusing on historical sources highlighting the similarities and difference between today and the past.

Curriculum links:

History KS2

  • A local history study
  • note connections, contrast and trends over time
  • develop the appropriate use of historical terms
  • construct informed responses that involve thoughtful selection and organisation of relevant historical information
  • understanding how knowledge is constructed from a range of sources

Geography KS2

  • Develop their use of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge
  • describe and understand key aspects of human geography

Design and Technology KS2

  • Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils should be taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an iterative process of designing and making
  • Evaluate their ideas and products against their own design criteria and consider the views of others to improve their work
  • Apply their understanding of how to strengthen and reinforce more complex structures

Minimum and maximum group sizes: 30 to 60 pupils.

Adult:Pupil Ratio: 1:6

Duration: 240 minutes

All school, nursery and group visits must be booked in advance.

We are now invoicing all school groups for their visits. Invoices will follow approximately 10 working days from the date of your trip. The number of children indicated on the booking form is an approximate. You will only be charged for the number of children who actually visit on the day.
