Woman listening to an oral history exhibit

Community History (Both)

Everyone has a story to tell. Community history collects objects, oral history, personal memories and photographs to show how ordinary people live their lives, creating a personal link to the past.

Objects don’t need to be expensive to be important. Many of the objects in our collections were practical or used everyday, such as toys and dolls, farming tools and household items. These objects can tell a story about the people who have owned them.

We continue to add to the collection with modern objects to represent the changes in Colchester and Ipswich and the people who live here.
