Jars containing various specimens in fluid

Fluid Collection (Colchester)

Often specimens have to be preserved in fluid in order that we might study them later. The Colchester collection includes a number of items stored in fluids. These include a range of vertebrates, including 200 reptiles and amphibians and a reference collection of 2,500 spiders, worms and other invertebrates. We also hold a variety of fluid specimens from the Passmore Edwards museum.

Researchers should contact Sophie Stevens on 01206 282931 or collections@colchester.gov.uk for further information or to book an appointment.
