A collection of minerals, rocks and fossils on display

Geology + Palaeontology (Colchester)

The geology collection includes minerals, rocks and fossils from all over the world but are particularly strong in local fossils from the past 50 million years.

Petrology and Mineralogy

We have a collection of rocks and minerals from around the world including the Yellowly-Watson 19th Century mineral collection.

We have a large collection of fossils from the area including the fossilised remains of mammoths, crocodiles and hippos. These include recent finds from the North Sea as well as Victorian material from the Dr Bree collection.

Researchers wanting to use the geology collection should call Sophie on 01206 282931 or contact for more information or to book an appointment.
