William Gilberd

William Gilberd was a Tudor doctor born in Colchester.  He became physician to Elizabeth I and in his spare time, he conducted experiments in magnetism and static electricity and published an important book showing his findings.  This loan box is intended to be cross-curricular, allowing pupils to research not only Tudor life and medicine, but also giving them the opportunity to try out some of Gilberd’s pioneering experiments.
