By Car

Sat Nav – please use CO1 1UG.

To reach Colchester by road, exit the A12 at junction 27 and follow the signs to the town centre.

There are spaces for disabled badge holders by Castle Park in Museum Street, and places in the High Street.

By Train

Colchester is just 58 minutes on the main train line from London or Norwich.  Arriving at Colchester Main station, the museums are just a 20 minute walk or a short bus ride to the town centre.

Arriving at Colchester Town station the museums are a 10 minute walk from Colchester Town railway station, up Queens Street and St Botolphs Street.

By Bus

The museums are a 10 minute walk from the main bus station on Osborne Street.

Find Your Way

Colchester Castle Museum and Hollytrees Museum are located at the end of the High Street.  The Natural History Museum is situated opposite the main gates to Colchester Castle Park.

Facilities And Accessibility

Every effort has been made to make Hollytrees Museum a great place to visit for everybody.

Facilities include:

  • Automatic sliding doors.

  • Disabled parking available nearby.

  • Lift – Please note no more than two wheelchair users allowed on the first floor. If there are more than two wheelchair users in your group, please call 01206 282937.
  • Display cases and text are at wheelchair height.
  • RADAR accessible toilet.
  • Hearing induction loop.

  • Inductive couplers for hearing aids fitted to sound phones.  

 

 

  • Display sound transcripts.
  • Tactile RNIB ‘Maps For All’ floor plan.
  • Hands-on interactive and sensory experiences. 
  • Display sound commentary.
  • Guide and helping dogs are welcome.
